For the first time, the Aiken Standard is offering free publication of wedding, engagement and anniversary announcements in every Sunday edition at no charge, all year long in celebration of the paper's own 150th anniversary in 2017.

First published in 1867, the newspaper wants to share the joy of reaching its 150th year in business with the community, and what better way than celebrating local couple's milestones, as well?

“Engagements, weddings and anniversaries tell the personal stories of our community. They are fun to read, and belong in the Aiken Standard as an important part of the fabric of our shared history,” said Aiken Standard Publisher Rhonda Overbey.

Announcements will be published at no charge every Sunday in the Living on the Go section of the paper through the yearlong sponsorship of The Furniture Connection on East Pine Log Road in Aiken.

Announcements can also be shared online by visiting aikenstandard.com – just click on the "Features" tab and select "Announcements and Celebrations."

The deadline to submit announcements and photos is each Wednesday at noon for publication on the following Sunday.

Free wedding and engagement announcements will feature a standard-sized 2-column photo – which is about 3.5 inches wide and 5 inches deep – accompanied by a written description up to 500 words.

To publish a larger photo, the Aiken Standard is offering a special 150th anniversary price of $150 to publish a 3-column-wide, 7-inch-deep photo, accompanied by a written description with no word limit.

For anniversaries – whether it's your first, 10th, 25th or 50th – we encourage couples to share their before and after photos. We'll publish both photos with anniversary announcements, which also are shareable online.

Announcements generally include the names of the couple, their city of residence, the date and place of the wedding and the name of the person presiding over the ceremony, as well as the names of the couple's parents and grandparents.

To make the process even easier, forms for weddings, engagements and anniversaries can be filled out online at . Printable versions of these forms are included with this story online and will be available for download in the coming week.
